Local events postponed due to coronavirus

Rockingham Dragway

ROCKINGHAM — More events are being canceled or postponed as state and federal officials recommend differing limits for mass gatherings.

Richmond County Hospice announced Monday that it would postpone its Children’s Grief Counseling Camp.

“We are not sure when, but our plan is to host this event once everything with this outbreak settles down,” reads a Facebook post. “Thank you for understanding and please be considerate of those around you especially our elderly in this time of crisis.”

Hospice is also postponing the Cool Cars for a Cause fundraiser, but doesn’t have an additional date for that yet, either.

Rockingham Dragway also canceled its race slated for this weekend.

A statement on the dragway’s Facebook page reads:

“With the Governor closing all restaurants dining rooms today we feel it would be irresponsible for us (to) open Saturday. We agree that this pandemic curve needs to be flattened and to take every precaution known at this time.

All who have pre-entered will have their entry refunded.

Let us all pray for our nation.”

A motorcycle ride to raise money for headstones for local veterans was also postponed.

Across the river in Wadesboro, the Ansonia Theatre announced the postponement of its production of “Little Shop of Horrors, which began Friday and was set to conclude this weekend.

“We are working with the licensing companies and we will announce new show dates for Little Shop of Horrors and Alice in Wonderland as soon as we know them.

We ask for your patience while our team takes the necessary steps to get us back on track. Once we have secured new dates we will begin the process of exchanging your tickets for the new dates.

As a renowned not-for-profit theatre, we will come out the other side of this having the same commitment to excellence. Again, thank you for your patience.

We look forward to being back up and running. Until that time…please take care of yourselves.”
