The Lumber River Council of Governments’ Aging Division was recognized for its Back to School Support for Grandparents in Bladen, Hoke, Richmond, Robeson, and Scotland counties. The Lumber River Council of Governments’ Family Caregiver Support Program provided access to back-to-school supplies to grandparents raising grandchildren throughout the five-county region. These school supplies relieved the financial burden of these grandparents and allowed the grandchildren to successfully return to in-person learning.

The Lumber River Council of Governments’ Workforce Development Division was recognized for its work with its COVID-19 Employment program. This program provided employers with on-the-job training services for new employees. The program has also addressed the shortage of employees with CDL credentials by funding the required education and practical training for dislocated workers across the region.

The Lumber River Council of Governments’ Local Government Services Division was recognized for its Lumber River Regional Broadband Study. This study was conducted in partnership with Bladen, Hoke, Richmond, Robeson, and Scotland counties in an effort to determine the true extent of broadband challenges within the region and to develop a framework to improve broadband access and affordability across the region. This study will also be featured during the National Association of Development Organization’s Annual Training Conference in October.
