Man booked in Richmond County Jail on murder charge

ROCKINGHAM — A man is being held in the Richmond County Jail on an open count of murder.

Online jail records show 47-year-old Gary Wilson Quick was booked at 5:54 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office confirmed his charge is in relation to a body that was found in a vehicle at the Shell Station on U.S. 74 Business earlier in the day.

The vehicle, a gray GMC Envoy with South Carolina plates, sat in the east driveway of the station with a white sheet over the passenger-side door.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and Rockingham Police Department both had detectives at the scene, but the sheriff’s office is leading the investigation.

A witness at the store said the vehicle pulled up at 12:43 p.m.

The sheriff’s office plans to release more information once the families have been notified.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Quick’s only prior conviction was for misdemeanor larceny in 1992.
