HAMLET — A man had to be rescued Thursday afternoon following a cave-in.

A contractor was working on a collapsed sewer line near the intersection of N.C. 177 and Charlotte Street when he was trapped following a cave in, according to Mayor Bill Bayless.

The victim was quickly rescued and sent to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital-Richmond in Rockingham, Bayless said, adding that he was conscious and breathing when he was put into the ambulance.

“It didn’t take long to get him out,” Bayless said. “Hamlet Rescue did a fine job.”
