McInnis appointed to Agriculture and Forestry Awareness Study Commission

RALEIGH — This week Sen. Tom McInnis was appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger to serve as co-chair of the Agriculture and Forestry Awareness Study Commission.

Sen. Berger stated, “Senator McInnis is a relentless advocate for his community. I know he’ll bring that passion to a committee that’s important and relevant to his district.”

The Commission’s purpose is to develop alternatives for increasing the public awareness of agriculture and forestry, identify problems limiting future growth and development of the industry, develop an awareness of the importance of science and technological development to the future of agriculture and forestry industries, and formulate plans for new state initiatives and support for the expansion of opportunities in these sectors.

The Commission’s oversight function includes, but is not limited to, evaluation of program costs and benefits, managerial effectiveness, internal control, and compliance. The Commission is composed of citizens of North Carolina who are interested in the vitality of the agriculture and forestry sectors of the state’s economy.

“I am both humbled and thankful to have been chosen to serve on this important Agricultural and Forestry Committee. It is an honor to be a part of the future of the largest business in North Carolina with an annual gross economic output in access of $90 billion. Agriculture and forestry support hundreds of thousands of workers and households in our great state and we must make sure that both are protected and expanded for the future,” McInnis said.
