CHERAW, S.C. — Despite the COVID-19 situation, McLeod Health Cheraw is committed to providing women with convenient access to mammography services for both emergent and non-emergent needs.

As part of that commitment, we are taking the appropriate precautions based on recommendations from both the American College of Radiology and Centers for Disease Control.

Prior to the patient’s appointment, the McLeod Breast Imaging Team will ask a series of screening questions to ensure that the patient does not exhibit any COVID-19 symptoms.

Patients are also asked to wear a mask to their appointment. If they do not have a mask, one will be provided.

Upon their arrival to McLeod Breast Imaging, patients will find a plexiglass shield in place at the registration desk for their protection as well as spacious seating in the waiting area to accommodate social distancing.

While McLeod has always prioritized the safety of our patients, appointment increments have been expanded to allow for more enhanced cleaning between patients. In addition, every technologist caring for patients during a screening mammogram is required to wear a mask.

A mammogram is the best way to detect breast cancer in its earliest, more treatable stages.

Breast cancer is the number one cancer treated at McLeod Health each year. Numerous studies have shown that when breast cancer is diagnosed early it has a cure rate of greater than 90 percent. Some breast cancers have no symptoms when the tumor is small and most treatable. Therefore, it is important to follow screening guidelines for early detection, before symptoms are noticeable.

At McLeod Health, 3-D technology offers our patients greater accuracy, earlier detection, and up to 40 percent fewer recalls for additional testing.

Schedule your 3-D mammogram by calling McLeod Reservations and Scheduling 843-777-2095 and choose option 1.

McLeod Health continues to be the choice for medical excellence from the Midlands to the Coast, and you can trust that we have taken extraordinary steps to keep our patients safe during their visit. The health and safety of our patients has always been and will continue to be our priority.
