HAMLET – The musical, ‘Million Dollar Quartet,’ will be coming to Cole Auditorium on Saturday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. Joey Bennett, Director of Cole Auditorium, states, “This is one of only two dates in the state that this tour will be playing. We are very excited to close out our 2017-2018 DeWitt Series with this great Broadway musical. With impersonators of four world-renowned musicians and featuring the hits of all four recording artists, this show is sure to be a treat for all music lovers.”

According to a release from Richmond Community College/Dewitt Series, ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ is the smash-hit musical inspired by the famed recording session that brought together rock ‘n’ roll icons Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins for the first and only time.

The Million Dollar Quartet website shares the story behind the musical: “On Dec. 4, 1956, these four young musicians gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever. ‘Million Dollar Quartet’ brings that legendary night to life, featuring a score of rock hits including ‘Blue Suede Shoes,’ ‘Fever,’ ‘That’s All Right,’ ‘Sixteen Tons,’ ‘Great Balls of Fire,’ ‘Walk the Line,’ ‘Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On,’ ‘Who Do You Love?,’ ‘Matchbox,’ ‘Folsom Prison Blues,’ ‘Hound Dog’ and more.”

“This thrilling musical brings you inside the recording studio with four major talents who came together as a red-hot rock ‘n’ roll band for one unforgettable night. Don’t miss your chance to be a fly on the wall of fame!”

The musical, written by Floyd Mutrux and Colin Escott, dramatizes the impromptu recording session which is considered an important moment in rock ‘n’ roll history. The music here is really the star, with all the musicians playing their own instruments and performing the songs well.

Michelle Kenyon writes in her ‘Snoop’s Theatre Thoughts blog,’ “The musical is certainly a crowd-pleaser. With a catalog of classic music from the early days of rock n’ roll, played and sung live on stage and with a great deal of energy and respect for the material, a show like this is sure to please.”

Bennett shares, “Our DeWitt Series shows this season have attracted patrons from Ohio, Tennessee, and West Virginia. We are proud to help our local economy.” He continues, “As we conclude the season with this show, we want to thank our series sponsors, the DeWitt Family, and our season ticket holders for supporting our programming, as well as the patrons who chose to join this Director’s Circle this year to support our students!”

DeWitt season ticket holders use their tickets for entry but single show tickets are available for $35, $40, or $45 each.
