Monroe Avenue on lockdown

HAMLET — An elementary school is currently on lockdown while law enforcement searches for someone.

“Out of an abundance of caution, a lockdown is currently in place at Monroe Avenue Elementary as authorities are looking for an individual in that area,” Richmond County Schools Public Information Officer Jasmine Hager said in an email. “Everyone is safe, and we will update as more information is available. As always, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority.”
