More railroad crossings slated for closure in Richmond, Marlboro, Chesterfield counties

ROCKINGHAM — Several more CSX railroad crossings between Hamlet and Cheraw, South Carolina, are scheduled for temporary closure within the coming weeks.

Angela Nelis, chief operating officer of Southern Commercial Development recently announced about a dozen closures, including four in Richmond County, from Feb. 27-March 3.

The surfacing team will be pushing rock back under the rail and laying new asphalt, according to Nelis.

She added that each crossing is expected to be closed for three to five days, allowing for “unforeseen circumstances.”

All four Richmond County closings are slated for Feb. 27 or 28:

  • Freeman Mill Road, just west of the intersection with Gin Mill Road
  • Airport Road, just west of the intersection with Gin Mill Road
  • a back entrance to the energy complex off of N.C. 177
  • Osborne-Ghio Road, just east of the intersection with Holmes Road near the South Carolina border

There are also multiple crossings slated for closure in Marlboro and Chesterfield counties:

  • Pleasant Hill Road, just east of the intersection with S.C. 177 – Feb. 28
  • Hatcher Hill Road, between the intersections with Skyview and Englewood Drive – March 1
  • Step Road, northwest of the intersection with S.C. 177 – March 1
  • Brickyard Road, behind the Corner Cupboard at the intersection of U.S. 1 and S.C. 9 in Wallace – March 2
  • E. Market Street, northeast of the intersection with Front Street in Cheraw – March 2
  • Liberty Street, between the intersections with Front Street and Chestnut Street in Cheraw – March 2
  • Crossover of Church and Front streets in Cheraw
