More Richmond County residents tested for coronavirus, no change in case total

ROCKINGHAM — The number of coronavirus cases in Richmond County remains at a dozen and 21 more individuals have been tested, Health and Human Services Director Dr. Tommy Jarrell announced Wednesday.

The most recent press release from the Richmond County Health Department doesn’t offer much more information than Tuesday’s.

Of the 350 residents tested, only twelve have been confirmed positive for the coronavirus. The remaining 325 tests that have returned have been negative. Jarrell added that only four percent of test results remain unknown as of 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, neighboring Moore County recorded its third death attributed to COVID-19 and its total count has risen to 88.Four of Richmond County’s cases are believed to be related to an outbreak at Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, two are attributed to out-of-county work-related travel and the others considered due to community spread.

One of the patients died last week, five are currently hospitalized and the remaining six are in home isolation, Jarrell said.
