ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County broke the 3,000-case mark on Monday with the announcement of more than 100 new cases over the weekend.
The Richmond County Health Department reported 101 more residents have tested positive since Friday, bringing the total number of cases to 3,077.
There are currently 475 active cases in the county, with 472 residents under home isolation.
North Carolina set another one-day case record on Saturday with 11,581 new cases statewide. By Monday, the daily case count had dropped to 5,936
The last time daily cases were below 5,000 was on Dec. 29.
The COVID-related hospitalization trend appears to be decreasing slightly, after peaking at 3,964 on Jan. 6. By Jan. 10, the number had dropped to 3,843 and was even lower the previous day.
So far, there have been 421 cases of the coronavirus this month. There were just over 400 for both October and November and more than 800 in December.
According to FirstHealth, 99 of its 370 patients (26.8%) are COVID-positive. Scotland Memorial Hospital has 39 patients isolated.
FirstHealth and the Health Department began administering vaccines to those 75 years old and older on Monday.
Free COVID-19 testing will continue throughout the month in the parking lot behind the Health Department. Testing will run from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday, except when closed for lunch from noon-12:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Of all the tests performed on county residents, 24,022 have returned a negative result and the Health Department estimates that 2,548 have recovered.
