HOFFMAN — Inmates and staff at Morrison Correctional Institution worked together to help make Christmas a little merrier for children in foster care.
The prison’s Social Interactive and Development Club, a men’s service club,was able to raise $1,000 to buy Christmas presents for Richmond County’s foster kids.
The inmates raise money throughout the year through food sales and other sales to donate to various causes, according to Janet Butler, correctional case manager.
“This has been a tradition for many years at Morrison,” Butler said. “The offenders like to give back to the community.”
Butler, along with case workers and staff members Kay Boyd, Thomas Carter, Christine Benton, Janeen Lee and Luis Flores, took the money and went shopping for the kids, buying clothes, books and a variety of toys including balls and baby dolls.
