RALEIGH — Recently elected Rep. Ben Moss has been assigned to five committees in the N.C. House of Representatives for the upcoming session.
House Speaker Tim Moore, R-Cleveland, announced the committee assignments on Monday.
“Committees in the North Carolina House are well-prepared to get to work addressing the priorities of North Carolinians after a decade of implementing responsible budgets and policy reforms,” Moore said in a statement Monday. “Through these committees, the state House will maintain our record of results that benefit families, help businesses grow, and improve state government services for our citizens.”
Moss, R-Richmond, will serve on the following committees: Appropriations; Appropriations, Transportation; Commerce; and Local Government. He will serve as vice chair for the Transportation and Local Government committees.
Having served on the Richmond County Board of Commissioners for a decade, Moss seems an ideal fit for the Local Government Committee. Moss also has insight into the transportation arena as an engineer for CSX Transportation.
“It is an absolute privilege to be able to serve the citizens of Richmond, Montgomery and Stanly counties, and I am honored to serve on these important committees,” Moss said in a statement Tuesday. “I look forward to doing my part through the committee process to ensure that the residents of House District 66 have a strong voice in Raleigh.”
Moss is one of more than a dozen freshman representatives in the state House. Prior to being sworn in, he was elected freshman whip.
Moss won’t be the only former county commissioner in the General Assembly. The Carolina Journal reported in November that former commissioners comprise 20% of the legislature.
The General Assembly opens the 2021-2022 Session on Wednesday.
