RALEIGH — On June 23, Rep. Ben Moss met with teachers at the North Carolina Teacher Cadet Curriculum Training. Two of the teachers taking the training were from Montgomery County, which is a part of Moss’s 66th District.

The Teacher Cadet program is offered to high school students who are interested in the field of education. The curriculum is designed to allow students to explore multiple avenues within the traditional education system. Teaching, administration, school social work, school nursing, and even school psychology are just a few areas that students will learn about while in the Teacher Cadet program.

Moss visited the two teachers that will be teaching the class this fall in Montgomery County. One class will be offered at the Montgomery County Early College and the other will be offered at the Montgomery Central High School.

“I have two children in public school, I really think that building up our schools is the most important thing,” Moss said while addressing those in attendance of the training. Moss also ensured that “This program is a common-sense solution to building up our teacher pipeline.”

Josh McGee, a former teacher cadet from Richmond County, currently serves as a legislative specialist with the N.C. Department of Public Instruction focusing on teacher recruitment and community partnership.

The North Carolina Senate has released its appropriations bill which does not include Teacher Cadet funding, now it is the North Carolina House’s turn to add revisions and make changes to the Senate’s original budget proposal.
