ROCKINGHAM – For 35 years, FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital – Richmond (MRH – Richmond) has hosted its Annual Wellness Screening Day – a community wide event of diagnostic lab screenings that help residents of the Richmond County community by providing free and reduced-cost screenings. During those 35 years, MRH – Richmond has provided diagnostic lab pre-draws that precede the Wellness Screening Day event.

Thanks to the advancement of technology and the implementation of FirstHealth MyChart, FirstHealth’s online patient portal, MRH – Richmond will make changes to this year’s wellness event.

“For the past 35 years we have always hosted a wellness day event,” says John Jackson, president of FirstHealth’s Southern Region. “With the addition of FirstHealth MyChart in our 36th year, we felt that we no longer needed to provide the event that follows the pre-draws.”

Rather than gathering results on the Saturday following the Wellness Screening pre-draws, community members will be instructed to review their screening results in FirstHealth MyChart after completing their diagnostic tests.

“This new format will allow both patients and their physicians to get results much earlier – possibly even in the same day,” says Jackson. “This allows us to continue to provide the same great community benefit we have for many years in a quicker, more effective way.”

This year’s Wellness Event will take place Oct. 2-6 and Oct. 8-10 from 6 to 9:30 a.m. at MRH – Richmond. Tests offered will include:

·         Blood pressure screenings – free

·         Body Mass Index (BMI) screenings – free

·         Bone density screenings – free

·         Basic spirometry – free

·         Urinalysis – free

·         Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) – $10

·         EKG – $10

·         Flu vaccines $15

·         A1C test – $15

·         Wellness profile – $25

·         Vitamin D test- $25

·         Pap smear – $25

For best results, blood work should be done while fasting for at least eight hours prior to tests. Cash or check will be accepted. Registration will occur at the front lobby.

Additionally, FirstHealth will be offering to link patients with primary care providers in the event they do not have a primary care provider or need someone to review their results.

The FirstHealth MyChart patient portal allows FirstHealth patients to access their test results, communicate safely and securely with their health care providers, manage appointments, refill medications, pay their balances online, review their health history and schedule appointments.

In order to review results from the Wellness Screening Event, patients will need to register for FirstHealth MyChart. To access FirstHealth MyChart, visit www.firsthealthmychart.org
