N.C. Forest Service truck flips north of Ellerbe; driver airlifted

ELLERBE — A wreck involving a N.C. Forest Service truck has U.S. 220 Business shut down, according to the N.C. State Highway Patrol.

The driver, a 69-year-old man whose name has not yet been released, reportedly told troopers that a deer was in the road.

First responders say it was near the site of the former David’s Produce.

Troopers say he was hauling a bulldozer on a flatbed when when he ran off the right side of the road and flipped the truck on its side.

He was airlifted to N.C. Baptist Health in Winston-Salem and is expected to recover from his injuries, according to troopers.

Drugs and alcohol do not seem to be factors.

According to the Ellerbe Rescue Squad, the road was expected to be shut down for several hours.
