ROCKINGHAM — Downtown will light up with around 90 vendors, as well as a new look, on Saturday as the Rockingham Downtown Corporation, Richmond County Tourism Authority, and the city sponsor Christmas on the Square, now in it’s 23rd year.
The RDC began planning the event in September.
“We have a lot of new craft vendors this year and are excited about being the first to host this event around the new fountain,” said Chairperson Carolyn Ford.
There will be fun for the entire family beginning at 10 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m., including arts and crafts, entertainment, various exhibits, food, and much more. Fingerprinting will be sponsored by Rockingham Police Department and there will be a free Kids Zone with a super slide, train rides, castle jumping, and a rock climbing wall. Monster trucks are also scheduled to be on exhibit.
The Rockingham Lions Club Vision Van will be set up once again to offer free vision checks. Arts Richmond will be open with exhibits from local artists and all are encouraged to come out in support.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the day beginning at 10 am with Christmas music. The live lineup will follow with Lisa Patterson at 10:30 a.m., L.J. Bell Chorus at 11 a.m., Bold Moves Dance Studio at 11:30 a.m., Richmond Community Theater Cast at noon, Carol and the Bells at 12:30 p.m., Mount Olive Preschool at 1:30 p.m., Summit Church Praise Band at 2 p.m., and Mount Sinai Baptist Church at 3:30 p.m.
Santa Claus will be there to greet the children as well as giving an ear to the long wish lists of “what I want for Christmas.” Toys for Tots will be set up to collect toys for children who are less fortunate.
Ford encourages all to come out to enjoy the event with family and friends.
