ROCKINGHAM — An investigation is underway into what caused two vehicles to go up in flames at a local garage.

The Northside Volunteer Fire Department received a call at 12:45 a.m. Monday to a vehicle fire at Alfredson’s Import Repair on U.S. 1, across from Richmond Senior High School, according to Chief Ed Causey.

When crews arrived, Causey said a Range Rover and a black four-door car were fully involved.

It took 30 minutes to get the flames under control and about 45 to extinguish the blaze, he said.

Crews had to block one of the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 to run a line from the hydrant to the truck for water supply, Causey said.

Causey said he wasn’t aware of any injuries.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was called to investigate.

Investigators could not be reached Tuesday afternoon.
