ROCKINGHAM – If you were in downtown Rockingham Monday morning you would have seen the new water fountain on the square being tested.
It was so beautiful and the sound of the water was so peaceful.
As the new square takes shape it will be a most delightful complement for downtown Rockingham.
Also Monday morning, demolition started on the R.W. Goodman building.
D.H. Griffin’s heavy equipment was hard at work tearing down what used to be the Long Building.
Work will continue until all of the buildings are torn down and hauled away.
The new Richmond Community College Business School will be built on the location.
As the demolition began, several people, including Mr. Charles Deane and J.A. Bolton, observed from a distance.
It was sad watching a part of Rockingham’s history go down but what replaces it will help downtown grow and will be a viable addition to our community.
