ELLERBE — A woman is facing more than half-dozen charges after allegedly breaking into a home with a male accomplice and stealing a vehicle.
According to warrants, 38-year-old Kellie Quick Russell, and 37-year-old Richard Glenn Byrd, both of Fayetteville Road, Rockingham, broke into a home sometime between dusk and dawn Nov. 6-7.
Russell and Byrd are accused of damaging the rear sliding-glass door and side-entry door of the home before making off with: shotgun ammunition; collectible Zippo lighters; miscellaneous DVDs and CDs; a Black & Decker cordless circular saw; a metal toolbox; a set of binoculars; miscellaneous knives; corded hair clippers; various clothing items; several pieces of mail; a plastic dog crate; and a portable radio.
Other warrants allege that Russell stole a check for $39.07 and forged the victim’s signature; and stole a 2014 Nissan Altima and two debit cards.
Both Russell and Byrd were served with a criminal summons for second-degree trespassing on Nov. 7 for entering or remaining on a property after being told to leave, according to court records.
Russell was arrested that day and charged with two felony counts of financial card theft, and one felony count each of larceny of a motor vehicle, second-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, larceny of chose in action, and forgery of endorsement.
Byrd was arrested Nov. 8 and charged with second-degree burglary and larceny after breaking and entering; and both were charged with injury to real property.
Russell is being held in the Richmond County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond, Byrd under a $15,000 secured bond.
Court records show Russell has several other pending charges.
She was cited Nov. 1 by the Rockingham Police Department with misdemeanor larceny for allegedly stealing from Food Lion.
Online court records show Russell is also facing five counts of forging and counterfeiting currency, notes and checks, and one count each of larceny of chose in action and obtaining property by false pretenses from the RPD.
She also has a court appearance scheduled with the following charges from the Division of Community Corrections: accessory after the fact of robbery with a dangerous weapon; possession of stolen goods or property; conspiracy to commit common law robbery; forgery of endorsement; obtaining property by false pretenses; and two felony probation violations.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Russell received a 24-month suspended sentence in September 2018 following felony convictions of common law robbery and forgery in Richmond County, and forgery, possessing stolen goods and uttering a forged paper, instrument or endorsement in Scotland County.
Byrd also has a pending charge of misdemeanor larceny, court records show.
He was last convicted in 2010 of misdemeanor child abuse in Moore County, according to state records.
Byrd’s first conviction in Richmond County was in 2008 for simple assault. He was convicted the following year of domestic criminal trespassing and possessing stolen goods.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
