Perdue employee treated and released after ‘discharge’ at Rockingham plant

ROCKINGHAM — A Perdue Farms employee was injured during an incident at the processing plant on Long Drive Tuesday afternoon.

The Rockingham Fire Department responded to a call of an explosion at the plant around 2:25 p.m.. But when crews arrived, Chief Harold Isler said there was no smoke and no fire and the victim had been taken to a hospital.

A Perdue spokesman said the associate was using a chain hoist to lift a battery used in a forklift and it is believed that the chain touched one of the battery’s terminals and caused a discharge.
