ROCKINGHAM — Part of one local street was blocked Tuesday evening as crews from three departments battled flames at a house fire.
The fire at the two-story brick house on South Skipper Street was reportedly called in just before 7:30 p.m.
The Rockingham Fire Department was joined by the Northside and Cordova volunteer departments to try to extinguish the blaze.
Firefighters were spraying down the back porch around 8 p.m., but the fire soon spread upstairs with flames shooting out of a window on the right side of the house and then the front.
The fire was attacked from the ground and from a truck on the street.
Fire officials said they were told by police that the house was vacant.
As of 8:45 p.m. the cause and location where the fire started was still unkown.
