HAMLET — Children of all ages had the opportunity to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Hamlet Depot Monday evening following the town’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

The event, now in its 37th year, began in Main Street Park with a welcome from outgoing Mayor Bill Bayless and invocation from Pastor Dan Blair.

The Hamlet Senior Center Choir performed a few traditional Christmas songs, followed by a live Nativity by members of Outreach for Jesus and Scripture reading by Pastor Chris Hawks.

The Rev. Tommy Legrand gave the benediction prior to the lighting of the tree. Many of those in attendance posed for photos in front of the tree before walking across the street to the Depot for hot chocolate and to meet Santa, as “The Polar Express” played inside.
