Fourth of July festivities around Richmond County kick off Wednesday evening with the season’s third installment of Plaza Jam.

The free concert, held in Rockingham’s Cole Plaza, will feature the return of the North Tower Band.

Usually held the first Thursday of each month May-October, the July concert has been moved to Wednesday, since the fourth falls on a Thursday.

The band’s set list features a variety of rock, beach and R&B hits.

North Tower first performed for the series in 2019 and the band also played last year. Click here to see photos of the 2023 performance.

The Ellerbe Lions Club will host its annual Fourth of July Jamboree on Thursday afternoon, featuring fireworks and the traditional watermelon race.

Gates open at 4 p.m. with opening ceremonies beginning at 6 p.m. Children under 12 will be admitted free, and admission for all others is $5. The Ellerbe Lions Club is also requesting donations to help cover expenses.

Hamlet will host its annual Independence Day celebration on July 5.

The city’s former fireworks vendor retired in 2023, causing the event to be moved up to the available date of July 1. Click here to see photos from 2023.

This year’s celebration will be on July 5, with the fireworks provided by Pyro Shows East Coast, based in Catawba, South Carolina.

The event will also feature food trucks and a chalk art contest at the Depot and live music from the Rob Cole duo across the street at Main Street Park, as well as the Hamlet Fire Department’s “super soaker.” There will also be food trucks at Hamlet City Lake.
