HAMLET — A would-be burglar is facing several charges after being caught with meth on the porch of one of the homes.
According to the Hamlet Police Department, officers were called to a home on Corning Street around 2 a.m. Tuesday when the residents discovered 46-year-old Daryl Wayne Faircloth caught on their enclosed back porch.
Police say Faircloth had damaged a door and door jam and that they found a gram of meth on his person.
He is also accused of damaging another door frame while trying to break into a home on Charlotte Street earlier.
Faircloth was arrested and charged with two counts each of first-degree burglary and injury to real property and possession of methamphetamine.
Faircloth is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 16 and is currently in the Richmond County Jail under a combined $26,000 secured bond.
He was also served with an outstanding warrant for assault on a female. It isn’t clear from where that warrant was issued.
Faircloth was first convicted of misdemeanor larceny in 1996 and felony larceny in 1997, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.
He was later convicted of two counts of driving with a revoked license in 2003 and possession of drug paraphernalia in 2008.
Faircloth was given probation in all those cases, as well for a conviction of cheating property or services in 2011. However, his probation on the latter charge was revoked in 2014, for which he spent nearly nine months behind bars.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
