ROCKINGHAM — A Montgomery County man was served with outstanding drug warrants from his home county after he was caught stealing from a local retail store.
According to a report from the Rockingham Police Department, 39-year-old Cain West, of Troy, stole assorted items from the sporting goods section of Walmart on July 3.
West was cited for misdemeanor larceny and arrested on warrants for cocaine possession and possession of drug paraphernalia out of Montgomery County and a probation violation out of Stanly County.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show West listed as a probation absconder. He is in the midst of a 12-month suspended sentence following an April conviction for misdemeanor larceny.
Online court records show West also has a second pending paraphernalia charge, as well as one for giving fictitious information to an officer in Montgomery County.
A court date for the Richmond County charge was not yet listed Monday afternoon.
West’s other prior convictions — all in Montgomery County in 2006 — are misdemeanor offenses, including: two counts of illegally taking a deer with a light; and one count each of resisting a public officer, littering on a public road, reckless driving and driving with a revoked license.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
