HAMLET — Two vehicles, a tractor and two barns were burned over the weekend following a pair of fires in the southeast corner of the county.
The Hamlet Fire Department responded to a fire Saturday on Gibson Road where officials say someone was burning trash in the yard.
In that fire, they say a car and tractor were burned, as well as the side of a barn.
Department officials say the person who started the fire was issued a warning ticket.
The following day, firefighters responded to another blaze on N.C. 38 near the South Carolina state line which burned a car, a barn and about two acres of land.
The Wallace and Brightsville fire departments, both out of Marlboro County, responded for mutual aid.
The cause of that fire is still under investigation by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
