HAMLET — Former Richmond County Schools administrator Dennis Quick is coming out of retirement — at least temporarily.
Quick has been tapped to serve as interim superintendent of the school district, RCS Public Information Officer Kylie McDonald said late Wednesday afternoon.
“We are excited to have Mr. Quick back on the RCS team!” a RCS Facebook post reads.
The news comes just a little more than a month after the most recent superintendent, Dr. Jeff Maples, announced his retirement.
Quick, a Dobbins Heights native and Hamlet High grad, went on to earn degrees from UNC-Chapel Hill, N.C. Agricultural and Technical State University and East Carolina University.
His educational career as a teacher and administrator took him to schools in Alamance, Davidson, Granville and Guilford counties before he returned home and spent his last decade with Richmond County Schools, according to a profile feature on Visit Richmond County.
He was principal of the Ninth Grade Academy before becoming executive director for operations, a post he held from 2013 to 2019, when he was named an associate superintendent.
Maples’ last day is July 31 and Quick will be sworn in Aug. 1.
