HAMLET — Richmond County Schools is responding to concerns following a Facebook post early Wednesday afternoon about a possible lockdown.
“Richmond Senior High School is operating on a regular schedule,” said Public Information Officer Jasmine Hager. “A rumor has gone around that school was on lockdown and/or dismissed early. Official calls on lockdowns or early dismissals will always come from Richmond County Schools via phone call and social media.
“As always,” she added, “student and staff safety is our priority.”
Someone had posted to the local Facebook page What’s Up Richmond County asking what was going on at the high school.
Someone else responded that it was on lockdown.
Jimmy Herring, administrator for the page, removed the post after the district’s statement was released.
