Recent RSHS Graduate to Join Richmond Observer Staff

ROCKINGHAM– A recent Richmond Senior High School graduate is using her summer to learn the ropes of journalism.

Courtney Paige Heaton of Richmond County, has recently joined the Richmond Observer team as a summer intern, to further her knowledge and pursue her career as a journalist. Heaton is a 2017 graduate, who was heavily involved as a member of the Beta Club, a North Carolina scholar, and scholarship recipient. She was also a member of the golf team, competitive show choir and vocal ensemble. Heaton says that although her high school days are long behind her, luckily, her days of singing are not.

“I received a call about joining a new worship band coming to Richmond County, and I am a member of the soon to be Summit church praise band. The church is contemporary, non-traditional and youth oriented, and I am grateful to be a part of it.”

Heaton plans to attend Richmond Community College for two years, and later transfer to a university. She has decided to pursue her passion for journalism, because of her love for reading and writing. With her degree in journalism, she hopes that she will one day work at a pop-culture magazine that will allow her to try various products, and give beauty, fashion and women’s health tips.

“This internship at the Richmond Observer is such a a great experience, and I am truly blessed.”

You can find Courtney around the county, assisting with coverage, or exploring the ins and outs of broadcast journalism while helping with production for Live at 5.
