REPORT: 4 more new teachers hired by Richmond County Schools; 3 resign

HAMLET — The Richmond County Board of Education on Thursday approved the hires of four more new teachers for the upcoming school year.

Sandy Blue, who has a B.A. in Elementary Education from UNC-Pembroke, will be a teacher at East Rockingham Elementary, replacing Debbie Adiemy.

Ariel Ingram, who obtained a B.A. in STEM/Biology from Livingstone College, replaces Gabby Fleischli as a biology teacher at Hamlet Middle.

Zacharii Currie will also be at Hamlet Middle as an English teacher, replacing Gary Ballard. Currie graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.A. in English, Secondary.Education.

Natanael Valenzuela will replace Laura Cranford as the English as a Second Language teacher at West Rockingham Elementary. Valenzuela. He holds an Advance Graduate Studies in Education degree from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

All four begin at their respective schools Aug. 10.

The school board also accepted three resignations, including two from the same school: Catherine Trinks and Kelsey Hatchell from L.J. Bell Elementary; and Brittany Winnie from Washington Street Elementary.

Hatchell’s listed reason for leaving is to teach at a non-public or private school, according to the personnel report. The others are listed as “Other reasons.”

Also included in the report was the withdrawal of Katie Long as a social worker at Fairview Heights Elementary.

Last week, the board approved the hires of 12 teachers and a teacher assistant and the rotation of three principals.
