ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing more than a dozen drug charges and other offenses from two Richmond County law enforcement agencies.
According to an incident report from the Rockingham Police Department, 39-year-old Timothy Wade Ott, of Hamlet, was pulled over for a traffic stop in the La Cabana parking lot around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.
While the narrative doesn’t specify the reason for the stop, the report indicates that Ott was not burning the headlights on the 2013 Nissan Sentra he was driving.
The officer reportedly found a brown powder substance and green leafy substance in the car, leading him to charge Ott with possession of heroin and misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Ott was booked into the Richmond County Jail at 1:41 a.m. Thursday and records show he is also facing multiple drug charges from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office:
- six counts of selling or delivering a Schedule II controlled substance;
- three counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance;
- two counts of maintaining a vehicle, dwelling or place for a controlled substance; and
- one count of trafficking in methamphetamine.
He is being held under a combined $182,500 secured bond.
Online court records show Ott also has pending charges of breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and larceny of a firearm; and citations for failure to burn headlamps and driving with a revoked license.
Ott is also charged with failing to report a new address as a sex offender.
He was convicted in 2003 on two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor, according to the N.C. Sex Offender Registry. Ott was 22 years old at the time and the victim was 14 when the encounters took place in 2002.
The registry lists his last Gathings Road address verification as Jan. 3.
Ott has court appearances scheduled for July 8 on the registration and larceny related charges; July 11 on the county’s drug charges; and July 25 on the RPD charges and traffic citations.
Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show the sex crimes are Ott’s only previous convictions in the state.
He was initially given probation, which was revoked in 2004 and Ott was incarcerated from May 18, 2004 to Dec. 14, 2005.
All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
