Report: Police find meth, weed in car at Rockingham checkpoint

ROCKINGHAM — A Hamlet woman is facing several drug-related charges after police say they found weed and meth in her car.

The Rockingham Police Department was conducting a checkpoint on East Washington Street at Fayetteville Road on Sept. 7 when a silver four-door Dodge pulled up around 9:15 p.m., according to an incident report.

Officers reportedly found a “rock substance” and two grams of a “green leafy substance” along with: three clear containers; two grinders, two clear pens used for smoking; a bowl used for smoking; a baggie; and a clear container holding straws, razor blades and other non-specified items.

Officers arrested 24-year-old Aimee Lou Cottingham, of Wilson Avenue, and charged her with one count each of possession of methamphetamine, possession of up to a half-ounce of marijuana, possession of marijuana paraphernalia and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was booked into the Richmond County Jail, where she remained Thursday, under a $25,000 secured bond.

According to records, Cottingham also had an order for arrest for failure to appear on a 2018 shoplifting charge, for which she was given a $2,000 secured bond.

Online records show Cottingham is scheduled to appear in court on the shoplifting and drug charges on Sept. 26.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
