ROCKINGHAM — Residents showed their support for the Richmond Senior High School Raider Band, raising around $300 during Share Night at Hwy 55 on Tuesday.

The restaurant donated a percentage of the night’s sales during the event, which was hosted by the Band Booster Club.

Club President Randy Stubbs was there along with Vice President Gus Bellamy, Band Director Edwin Carter, and Treasurer Holly Bellanger in  support of the event as well as interacting with customers. Several of the band members and their families also came by for a meal.

“After marching season, I like to find music opportunities for the students to travel and challenge themselves to become better musicians,” Carter said. “It gives them something to look forward to outside of marching season.”

Carter also mentioned the band is preparing for a performance at an upcoming annual event on April 24 at Carowinds The Festival of Music is one of the most anticipated student events in the Carolinas as well as surrounding states.

The event, which runs from March 21-May 30 invites middle, junior, and senior high school concert bands, jazz ensembles, orchestras, and choral ensembles to showcase their skills.

The event will take place under the guidance of retired Winthrop University Director of Bands Dr. William F. Malambri and Choirmaster Dr. Robert Holquist. They are both nationally known adjudicators and will evaluate as well as critique all performances.

All groups will receive certificates, and plaques will be awarded for superior ratings.

“Feedback from the judges helps the students set a goal when returning home to strive to become better” said Carter, adding there is hope for future opportunities to build the band program. “We want to give the students something to look forward to; to keep them invested in music.”

The Raider Band Booster Club wants to thank Hwy 55 as well as everyone who came out in support of the band. The club is a nonprofit, and invites anyone who would like to donate or host a fundraiser to contact Holly Bellanger at 910-334-2942 or email holly.raiderbandfans@yahoo.com.
