Submitted by Pam Simmons

HAMLET – Allison Story, who serves as the Director of the Richmond County Animal Advocates, is looking forward to a good turnout on Friday evening at the second annual Halloween Costume Party in Hamlet.

It will be held at The Sports Connection, located at 38 Main Street, and is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. Admission is $15 per person or $25 per couple.

The affair will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres and DJ Robert Smith will be on hand with music for those attending the contest.

The winner of the costume contest will win a massage from East of Bliss in Rockingham, owned by Sierra McQueen. 100% of the proceeds will benefit the spay/neuter program that has already helped more than 160 pets here in Richmond County.

For residents of Richmond County that receive assistance such as food stamps, Adult Medicaid, SSI, or Disability, there is a program in place which allows your pets to be spayed or neutered for only $7 through the Richmond County Animal Advocates. You need to bring your identification card, EBT card, or your last 3 bank statements showing that you receive SSI/Disability or your current SSI statement to the Richmond County Animal Shelter. It is located at 529 West Highway 74 in Rockingham. To sign up for the procedure, you must also bring your pet with you. If your pet has a current rabies vaccine, bring proof of that also.

Dogs must be dewormed prior to the surgery or the veterinarian will charge an additional fee and reschedule the procedure. Pain medications and in heat/pregnancy charge is not included in the surgery fee.

There is no limit on the number of animals that you can have spayed or neutered, but the funds are only available for pets that you already own. The goal of the program is to reduce the number of animals coming into the shelter. The Richmond County Animal Shelter is open Tuesday through Friday from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m.

Be a responsible pet owner and get your pets spayed or neutered.

Make sure to take advantage of this program offered by the Richmond County Animal Advocates if you are eligible!
