Richmond County announces campaign to promote broadband speed tests and survey

ROCKINGHAM — High-speed broadband internet access is critical to the growth of the local economy in both community and business development.

As we have experienced through the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, fast and reliable internet service is more vital now than ever before. Closing broadband gaps requires data about broadband speeds in homes and businesses throughout Richmond County — especially where service is poor or not available.

We are asking all Richmond County residents to visit www.richmondcountybroadband.com and complete a short 7-minute confidential survey. The survey may be completed from any location using an Internet connected device.  However, citizens are highly encouraged to complete the survey from the location, and using the Internet Service Provider, that best represents where they desire to have high-speed broadband access.

By performing the Speed Test in addition to the survey, broadband speeds will be collected and will be used to identify poor internet service areas that should receive priority attention for infrastructure investment.

If you or someone you know does not have any type of internet service in their home, please contact the LRCOG at 910-618-5533 for assistance. The survey results will help us develop a plan for improving broadband internet access throughout our county. We need your help in promoting awareness and wide participation in this broadband speed test and survey, please spread the word and the link.
