Richmond County coronavirus cases up to 12; health department releases ages

ROCKINGHAM — As of 2 p.m., April 14, 2020, Richmond County has a total of 12 laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Of the 12 cases, one is deceased, five are hospitalized and six are under home isolation. Four of the twelve laboratory confirmed cases in Richmond County are connected to the Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Two cases are believed to be work related with employers outside of Richmond County. The remaining six cases are believed to be community spread.

The ages of the twelve confirmed cases are: 50, 31, 70, 63, 61, 41, 54, 30, 51, 70, 82 and 38. 

At this time, 329 Richmond County residents have been tested for COVID-19. Twelve positive COVID-19 test results have been received and 308 negative test results have been received (97% of all test results have been returned). 

There is currently NO curfew in Richmond County. 

You do not need any kind of paperwork to travel to and from work. 

As of 5:30 am: 

  • 79% of North Carolina COVID-19 deaths have been age 65 and over. 
  • North Carolina has reported 5,024 cases of COVID-19. 
  • 418 are currently being hospitalized in NC with COVID-19. 
  • 69% of COVID-19 deaths in North Carolina at this point have been males. 
  • 38% of all NC cases are ages 25-49. 

COVID-19 Testing Individuals should be referred by their primary healthcare provider, Health Department, or by calling the COVID-19 hotline at 910-417-4947 for COVID-19 testing.

Collection samples for COVID-19 are being collected through First Health and the Health Department as needed. There is a drive-up testing site in both Richmond and Moore Counties. The Richmond County site for mobile testing is located at the former Sandhills Regional Hospital on Highway 74 in Hamlet. This site is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. The Moore County COVID-19 mobile clinic testing site is located at West Pine Elementary School located at 272 Archie Road, West End, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Each person will be screened for symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) to determine if the COVID-19 test should be collected.
