It will be a busy weekend for Richmond County as America celebrates its 245th birthday. Residents will find no shortage of events to attend for the Independence Day holiday.
Fireworks will light up the night sky in Ellerbe on Saturday, July 3 at the Berry Patch.
This is the second year in a row for the World’s Largest Strawberry. Last year, the Berrys paid for fireworks after the Ellerbe Lions Club and city of Hamlet canceled their events. Co-owner Lee Berry told the RO in April they made the decision after the county’s two traditional locations were canceled once again for 2021.
In addition to fireworks, the Ellerbe Rescue Squad will be on site selling hot dogs during the event and live music will be performed by the Beach Fever Band from 5-9 p.m. The fireworks display will begin around 9:30. The event is free to the public.
Also on July 3, both Rockingham Dragway and Rockingham Speedway will be gearing up for their automotive events.
The dragway will have Carolina vs the World: Who Wants Smoke? Racing event, featuring bikes and cars. Gates open at noon with racing beginning at 3 p.m. Admission is $25.
Across U.S. 1, monster trucks will be jumping, crushing, and digging at the speedway. The Monster Truckz Mayhem Tour is set to feature racing, motorcycle jumps and a human cannonball.
The rally takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoon through the evening. Adult tickets start at $16.50 and kids can get in free with a voucher from local participating locations.
According to the Monster Truckz website’s ticketing information, those locations include, “all schools, day care centers, and local businesses and area merchants.”
Just north of the racetracks, Hoffman will be celebrating Independence Day from 3-9 p.m on July 4 with various activities leading up to the main event…fireworks. Activities will be held at the old school building on Thompson Street.
