Richmond County Halloween activities altered due to rainy weather

ROCKINGHAM — With storms predicted to roll through the area during prime trick-or-treating time on Halloween, there have been some changes regarding planned events in Richmond County.

The City of Rockingham Parks and Recreation Department cancelled the 14th annual Trunk or Treat event at Browder Park.

The Steel Wheels Riding Club had planned to be there to hand out candy, but switched venues due to the cancellation, according to Joey Bostick.

The club will be hosting a trick or treat event at the Rockingham Rescue Squad on Rockingham Road at 6 p.m., rain or shine, he said.

Bostick added that any other businesses who would like to participate are welcomed to join.

Richmond Community College also had a slight change in location.

The college’s annual Trick or Treat on the Trail has been moved inside Cole Auditorium, from 5-6:30 p.m.

There is a $2 admission fee and members of the public must attend as the guest of a student or employee of the college.

Neighbors in the Hylan Avenue area of Hamlet decided that they would move their trick-or-treating activities to Friday night, since the skies should be clear, according to a Facebook post by Jamie Watson.

Other scheduled events include The Downtown Spooktacular at Discovery Place Kids and Fall Festivals at Mount Olive Baptist Church and Roberdel Baptist Church.
