ROCKINGHAM — With the National Weather Service predicting an 80% chance of showers on Saturday, Richmond County Hospice has decided to reschedule one of its annual outdoor fundraisers.

Cool Cars for a Cause, sponsored by Watson-King Funeral Home, has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 13, RCH announced Thursday morning.

The car, truck and motorcycle show, now in its fourth year, started in 2019, but Hospice had to cancel the event in both 2020 and 2021 due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Public Relations Director Julia Woody said trophies will be given out to the top 10 cars and trucks as chosen by the participants, as well as to the judges’ selections in the following classes:

  • Best Mini Truck

There will also be trophies awarded for the top two motorcycles (selected by participants), as well as for Directors’ Choice and Best in Show selected by judges, Richmond County Hospice staff, and Watson-King Funeral Home staff.

Registration will be from 8:30 a.m.-noon, with the show running from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Cost for participants is $20 for the first entry and $10 for additional entries.

The fundraiser will also include food, with hot dogs being sold by RCH, and Dawg Wagon will be on site selling all of their menu items — except hot dogs.

“We appreciate them making that accommodation for us,” Woody said.

Other vendors include Puckered Up Lemonade and the Chill Zone Ice Cream and Coffee.

“We have several vendors lined up that are going to be selling T-shirts, sweatshirts, some baked goods, plants, pens, keychains, car charms, and lots of other items,” Woody said.

With the date change, however, the Hospice fundraiser will be the same weekend as the NRMA/NMCA All-Star Nationals at Rockingham Dragway and EncounterQuest at Cole Auditorium.

Cool Cars for a Cause raised $4,200 in 2022 and around $4,000 in 2023, despite the weather.

Hospice’s largest fundraiser, Dancing with the Stars, raised more than $160,000 combined in the past two years. DWTS this year is currently planned for Sept. 21 at Cole Auditorium in Hamlet.
