Richmond County man charged with robbery, assault

ROCKINGHAM — A 19-year-old is facing robbery and assault charges in an incident alleged to have occurred late last month.

According to an arrest warrant, Christopher Anthony McLester, of Short Street, Rockingham, is accused of using a handgun to rob two men of $1,500 on Aug. 26.

McLester also allegedly hit one of the victim’s in the head with the gun.

He was arrested Aug. 28 by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and charged with one felony count of robbery with a dangerous weapon and one misdemeanor count of assault with a deadly weapon.

McLester was given a $25,000 secured bond and released on bail Aug. 29. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 10.

Records with the state court system and N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show McLester has no other pending charges or previous convictions in the state.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
