ROCKINGHAM — Family medicine physician Mary Catherine Moree, M.D., is looking forward to taking care of people in her hometown.
The Richmond County native will join Joseph Gillham, M.D., Hanie Abdel-Masih, D.O., and Emily Phillips, PA-C at FirstHealth Family Medicine in Rockingham on July 9.
“I was born and raised in Richmond County,” says Dr. Moree. “I think it means a great deal to people that they see a physician who has a true investment in this community.”
Dr. Moree is a 2002 graduate of Richmond Senior High School, and her son now attends the same elementary school that she attended in Richmond County.
A board certified family medicine physician, Dr. Moree earned her medical degree from East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine. She completed a post-graduate residency program at Cabarrus Family Medicine in Concord, N.C.
Prior to joining FirstHealth, she practiced family medicine in Laurinburg.
“FirstHealth has provided me with the opportunity to practice medicine in the community that I grew up in,” says Dr. Moree. “They provide great care to this community, and I am so thrilled that they have offered me the chance to be part of their team.”
Dr. Moree sees a wide range of patients, from young children to the elderly, and she treats a wide spectrum of medical issues from yearly check-ups to diagnosis and management of chronic conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and arthritis.
“My favorite part of practicing family medicine is that I get to take care of the whole family,” she says. “I can see grandparents, parents and their children. It is so important to know a patient’s family history, and there is no better way to do this than to actually get the opportunity to take care of multiple generations.”
Dr. Moree enjoys caring for patients of all ages, but she especially loves caring for children.
“I love the fact that they can become my “patient for life,” and I look forward to watching them grow up with each annual well-child visit,” she adds.
When she’s not practicing medicine, Dr. Moree enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, playing the flute and handbells, singing, cooking and, of course, Raider football. She is a member of the Sandhills Ringers, a community-based handbell group, and she currently serves as chair of the Board of Deacons at First Baptist Church in Rockingham.
