ROCKINGHAM – The following press releases were disseminated by the Richmond County Health Department and Richmond County Emergency Services, respectively.

Mosquitoes

The Richmond County Health Department will be contracting with a pest control operator to ground spray for mosquitoes next week.  We would like to keep you informed and make every effort to keep the bees safe during this process.  Therefore, we are requesting any beekeeper to contact our office at 910-997-8320 by Tuesday October 9, 2018 at 5pm to register your phone number and address of your beehive in the county.  We will use your phone number to notify you of spray zones and dates of spraying.  In addition, we will use your address to indicate the location of your beehive on a map for the pest control operators to use when they are spraying.   You may also call the number above if you have any other mosquito related questions.

General Clean-Up

If any citizen needs assistance with clean-up efforts from Hurricane Florence, please call 800-451-1954. The Flooding Cleanup Hotline has a list of reputable and vetted relief agencies that can assist you and your neighbors with cutting fallen trees, roof tarping and removal of debris, drywall, insulation, flooring, furniture and appliances. All of these services are free, but service is not guaranteed due to the overwhelming need. You will need to register by calling 800-451-1954 and provide the necessary information. This will be the only time you will be asked this information. Please be aware of scammers who are trying to take advantage of people. These volunteers will not ask for any personal information nor will they be requesting any type of payment.

Hazard Mitigation

Richmond County is working with both North Carolina and federal partners to gauge interest in some of the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Programs. There are three programs currently available for citizens:

· Acquisition

The acquisition program is a buyout program where the home is purchased and demolished for open space.

· Elevation

The elevation program is about retrofitting and raising the home to stop future flooding.

· Reconstruction

The reconstruction program is about demolishing the current home and rebuilding a more code-compliant home.

The first step in any of these programs is to complete the application to determine eligibility for the program you are interested.

To obtain an application, contact Richmond County Emergency Services at 910-997-8238.
