ROCKINGHAM — Two volunteer first responder agencies in Richmond County are selling food to raise funds this weekend.

On Friday, the Richmond County Rescue Squad will be selling barbecue and chicken plates at the base, 1004 Richmond Road, Rockingham.

Plates are $10 and include beans, slaw and a dessert. Deliveries can be made for order of six or more plates by calling 910-895-9516.

The sale starts at 11 a.m. and runs “until.”

The annual sale is the squad’s largest fundraiser to help supplement its budget to pay for equipment and make repairs to the vehicles and base.

On Saturday, the Derby Volunteer Fire Department will be selling spaghetti plates.

Those plates are also $10 and include a salad, roll and dessert, and will be available for dining in or take-out from 4-8 p.m. Delivery will be available for orders of 10 or more plates within a 15-mile radius.

For more information, call 910-417-1589.

The county’s rescue squads and volunteer fire departments each received $10,000 from the state budget in late 2021, thanks to Rep. Ben Moss.

The agencies also receive an annual allotment from the county budget.

The rescue squad, in addition, receives a quarterly contribution from United Way of Richmond County.
