Richmond County Schools on 2-hour delay; temps dropping for weekend

NWS

ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Friday following Thursdays heavy rains.

A Facebook post from around 7:30 p.m. reads: “With the likelihood of flooding in some areas and deteriorating road conditions, Richmond County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Friday, February 7 for students and staff. This also includes Richmond Early College. We will continue to monitor and update the weather conditions.”

The National Weather Service issued a flood warning for Richmond and surrounding counties, effective until 6:45 a.m. A flash flood warning and tornado expired at 7 p.m.

Richmond County seems to have been spared the damage, aside from minor flooding, caused across the Carolinas as the storms moved through on Thursday.

The rain is expected to taper off Friday morning, with wind gusts during the day reaching more than 35 mph.

Overnight temps leading into the weekend are forecast to be near freezing.
