Richmond County Sheriff’s Department Reports Inmate Death

ROCKINGHAM – The Richmond County Detention Center reports the death of an inmate. 

RCDC issued a call for medical emergency assistance on Thursday, June 14th. 

Deputies responded and found inmate Adrian Lamar Campbell, 30, complaining of chest pains.

Emergency Medical Services was immediately contacted but Campbell lost consciousness prior to their arrival. 

EMS personnel continued treating Campbell for an extended period of time but were unable to revive him. 

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) was contacted and responded to the Richmond County Detention Center where they processed the area and began interviews as per normal protocol. 

Campbell’s body was sent to the North Carolina Chief Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. 

Preliminary reports indicate that Campbell died of natural causes. 

The investigation by the SBI is ongoing.
