ELLERBE — Sheriff Mark Gulledge and his elves will be heading north to deliver toys in a giveaway parade Wednesday.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Ellerbe Fire Department and Ellerbe Rescue for the afternoon event.

According to Lt. Mike Childers, the parade will start at 1 p.m., taking a route down Sunset Avenue, turning left on to Easterling Street, crossing over Main Street and turning left onto Railroad Street, then right onto Crawford Road, ending at Parsons Field.

The sheriff’s office asks that kids who live along the route stand in their yards to receive the toys, or parents can park with their children beside the road.

Childers said the sheriff’s office handed out more than 50 toys during a similar giveaway parade in Cordova on Saturday.

The toys were funded through the sheriff’s office’s no-shave program, where deputies can grow a well-kempt beard if they contribute to a charity fund.
