ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County Special Olympics has 105 athletes that will participate in Special Olympics practices and local tournaments this fall, and it needs the community’s help.
As RCSO offers a variety of events, including bocce ball, bowling and track and field, the organization is need of athlete sponsors. To sponsor an athlete, the cost ranges from $50 to $75 per athlete, and it covers their t-shirts for each local event, medals, bowling alley rental, and other local tournament expenses.

Of the 105 athletes registered only six of them have sponsors. At the time of this publication, there are still 99 athletes awaiting a sponsor.

RCSO prides itself in never charging athletes to participate in Special Olympics. Anyone interested in sponsoring one or more athletes to participate in the 2017-2018 Special Olympics season may contact Theressa Smith, Richmond County Special Olympics coordinator, at (910) 997-8379.
