Richmond County teens charged in Myrtle Beach shooting; 3 others suspects in custody

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. —  Two Richmond County teens are facing charges south of the border related to a weekend shooting at a motel.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department has charged 18-year-old Bryson Lee Pack, of Rockingham, with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during violent crime and resisting arrest; and 19-year-old Cody Alan Harding, of Hamlet, with possession of a stolen handgun and simple possession of marijuana.

Police say three juveniles from North Carolina, whose names are not released, have also been charged with loitering for harmful purposes, minor in possession of a handgun and possession of a stolen handgun. It is not yet known if they are from Richmond County as well.

A sixth suspect is in custody but being treated for injuries. That individual will be named when he is formally charged, police say.

The shooting is alleged to have occurred at the Happy Holiday Motel on Saturday.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, officers received the call around 3:10 a.m. June 13 and believe the shooting stemmed from a disturbance on the motel’s third floor.

Three people were reportedly shot and one firearm was recovered, according to police.

Pack was given a $464 cash bond on the resisting charge and his being held without bond on the other charges; Harding is being held on a $615 cash bond on the drug charge and no bond on the weapons charge.

They are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 13.

The status of the three juveniles is unknown.

Pack is currently serving a 36-month suspended sentence following a February conviction in Richmond County on four counts of felony breaking and entering, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

Records show both were convicted of misdemeanor charges of breaking and entering, larceny and injury to real property — Harding in May and Pack in July 2019.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
