ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County’s towns and cities are gearing up for the holiday season with several scheduled tree-lighting ceremonies.
The events signal a return to the municipalities’ traditions following cancellations in 2020 in response to the COVID pandemic.
Rockingham Events Coordinator Kim Williams announced Tuesday that the county seat’s 19th annual lighting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30 at Cole Plaza, with cookies, hot cocoa and hot cider afterwards.
However, Old St. Nick will be there a little earlier.
Williams said Santa Claus will arrive at the gazebo, between the plaza and Leath Memorial Library, at 5 p.m. and will be ready for all the boys and girls to give him their Christmas lists.
Last week, Hamlet announced that its tree-lighting would be Nov. 29 at Main Street Park. (Read here for more.)
Ellerbe will hold its lighting on Main Street at 6 p.m. Dec. 3. Both Hoffman and Norman have their events slated for 6 p.m. Dec. 6.
Dobbins Heights will be setting a date for its tree lighting this week. However, the town will sponsor sleigh rides for families from 3-5 p.m. Dec. 21.
